We hope that you find something of interest and value.

Murrisk

Murrisk is a unique village on the west coast of Ireland. Situated in the shadow of Croagh Patrick, Ireland's holy mountain, its history is inextricably linked to that of the mountain which has been a place of worship and pilgrimage for thousands of years. The village has a rich heritage with several significant archaeological sites, a 15th century Abbey and a national memorial commemorating the Irish Famine. This heritage combined with its location on the Atlantic coast has made the village a popular tourist destination.

Croagh Patrick

The unusual and distinctive conical shape of Croagh Patrick rises 765 metres above sea level. It has been a place of religious significance since the Iron age and is Ireland's oldest place of pilgrimage. Tradition has it that St. Patrick prayed and fasted on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights in 441 A.D. Croagh Patrick continues to attract a regular stream of visitors and pilgrims throughout the year culminating in the national pilgrimage which is held every year on the last Sunday in July.
