Forty Days and Nights
Tradition tells us that St. Patrick, while on his missionary journey around Ireland, spent forty days and nights of prayer and fasting on the summit during the Lenten season of 441 AD.
Croagh Patrick mountain peak rises to a height of 765m above sea level. It has been a place of religious and spiritual significance and of pilgrimage since prehistoric times, with continual pilgrimage for more than 1,500 years.
The annual National Pilgrimage takes place here on the last Sunday in July each year, this day being known locally as "Reek Sunday".

The mountain and the surrounding countryside contain many examples of standing stones and tombs which have remained since Megalithic Times.
